C-TPAT provides a framework for protecting America and the global supply chain while efficiently moving commerce across our borders. In this workshop, a corporate end-user, a customs representative and a service provider will engage the audience as they talk about the C-TPAT legislation and its impact on the manufacturing sector.

Monday — M2 Workshop
Cradle to Grave Global Corporate Real Estate Management Strategies
Speaker

Doyle Shea, Real Estate Analyst, 3M Real Estate Department
Many external forces — ranging from fluctuating business cycles to infrastructure requirements to international border conflicts to changes in surrounding neighborhoods — can dictate how global corporate facilities are used. To make informed decisions, corporate real estate professionals should always consider external forces that could possibly skew global investment strategies. In this session, Doyle Shea of 3M will present a case study that tracks the life span and utilization changes of a viable 3M international facility. Exit strategies will be emphasized.

Monday — Peer-to-Peer
Peer-to-Peer is an IAMC tradition combining low-key professional networking with high-value education in a small-group learning environment. Post-conference attendee evaluations show that Peer-to-Peer is one of the most popular Professional Forum programs. In this program, corporate end-users, service providers and economic developers mix, and get to know each other in a format in which table groups discuss important real estate issues. In addition, time is allocated for corporate end-users to meet separately and for service providers with economic developers to have a program focused on their needs.

"Exit strategies, lease negotiations and global consistency in transactions were among the topics addressed. But perhaps the most important was direct exchange of more than pleasantries, as IAMC’s members practiced what they preach in opening up to relaxed and cordial conversation about the challenges and triumphs their companies and communities are experiencing."

Tuesday — T1 Workshop Pandemic Preparedness — A Business Continuity Strategy
Speakers
Tom Belcuore, Director, Alachua County Health Department, Florida Department of Health
Beverly Jackson, Assistant Vice President, Vocational Rehabilitation, CSX
Dr. Joseph Ferro, WW Corporate Medical Director, Johnson & Johnson.

Because of the continued spread of avian influenza (type A influenza strains hosted by wild birds that cause illness and death when brought in contact with domestic poultry), many scientists and world health experts believe an avian flu pandemic is imminent. Many corporate leaders have incorporated pandemic threat into their business continuity strategies. This workshop will kick-off with panelist reports that indicate how the Florida Department of Health and two corporations are preparing for the pandemic. Following the panel reports, registrants will learn from each other as they engage in roundtable discussions about their respective organizations’ plans for dealing with the economic and human elements associated with a severe avian flu outbreak.

Tuesday — T2 Workshop Leasing Best Practices
Leasing space is one of the most important tasks of industrial corporate real estate professionals. It absorbs a major proportion of most corporate real estate departments’ time and budget. If the leasing process works well, few notice. But a glitch can disrupt operations and cost the company a lot of money. Attesting to the importance of leasing, the IAMC report "Outsourcing in the Corporate Real Estate Function" finds that lease administration is less frequently outsourced by corporate real estate than most others tasks. This workshop will examine elements of the leasing process and recommend methods that, if not "best practice," are at least "very good practice" as determined by the corporate real estate professionals who use them. According to Active member Phil Hammel, director of real estate for Honeywell, "Improving the leasing process by learning from the innovative practices of other real estate professionals can pay dividends in process consistency, simplification and cost savings to the company. I jump at opportunities to learn how others have built this process."

Tuesday — T3 Workshop: Get Some Help
At Get Some Help, Moderators Rick Little and Melissa Bauer present real-time corporate real estate questions and concerns raised by IAMC Active members within 30 days prior to the Forum to an audience Audience members at the Colonial Williamsburg leasing workshop applaud a speaker’s point. The format is lively and attendee participation is expected. The session is intended to be interactive and spark discussion rather than providing absolute answers, so the moderator restricts the time for each topic. Amelia Island will be Get Some Help’s fifth offering. End-user attendees at the Williamsburg Professional Forum rated it one of the conference’s top programs. Topics discussed included embedded leases, benchmarking real estate costs, outsourcing construction, maintenance and facility management, the crisis in property insurance, among others. Plan to attend and contribute your knowledge to this growing source of corporate real estate know-how.

"In a room set up like British Parliament, the questions and ideas flew fast without being furious as Weyerhaeuser’s Rick Little and Quad Graphics’ Melissa Bauer moderated Get Some Help."

Note that there will be no tape recording of Get Some Help at Amelia Island so that participants can speak frankly and discuss issues openly.
