Regions Roar into Action
     June 2 saw the inaugural meeting of the Northeast Region, hosted by Peter Garra, director of real estate for The BOC Group, at the company’s Murray, N.J., facility. Region Chair Lisa Speltz, director of real estate for Nestlé Waters North America, reports that eight active members and 10 associates attended. Following a discussion of regional goals, such as educational programs, networking opportunities, and membership development, the 2005-2006 IAMC Northeast Regional Board was elected:

     The featured speaker was Bruce Bloch, addressing the topic "Negotiating the Nuances of ‘No.’" A practicing attorney in both New York and New Jersey, Bruce has over 30 years of business, legal and real estate experience with three major corporations, working on projects in 35 countries, on six continents. This includes strategic, organizational and project management. As an Adjunct Professor at the New York University's School of Continuing and Professional Studies, Bloch coaches graduate students in negotiation and dispute resolution.

     One week later, the Mid-Atlantic Region Meeting was hosted by Ulrich Schmidt, manager-strategic relocation & expansion services for KPMG LLP, at the firm’s offices in Washington, D.C. The featured speaker was U.S. Congressman Kurt Weldon, R-Pa., vice chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, speaking on the topic of homeland security.

     Coming up on August 10, the Southeast Region will hold its next meeting at the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum in Birmingham, Ala. Sponsored in part by the Birmingham Metropolitan Development Board, the proceedings will feature remarks from IAMC member Art Murray, a talk on intermodal distribution by IAMC Chair Charles McSwain and a presentation on the automotive industry in the state by Steve Sewell, of event co-sponsor and IAMC member organization Economic Development Partnership of Alabama (EDPA). Angela Wier, EDPA vice president, is an IAMC member. Networking breakfast and lunch and a museum tour are all part of the $30 registration package.
