Triangulation
On June 20, Calif.-based IAMC member company Genentech announced it would lease a 164,000-sq.-ft. (sq.-m.) warehouse and distribution
center in Louisville, Ky.’s Jefferson Riverport International complex. Earlier this year, the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority, part of IAMC member organization the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development, approved Genentech for up to $2.4 million in tax incentives over 10 years, with planned employment of at least 15. Until recently, the building was occupied by another IAMC member company UPS whose ongoing investment in Louisville continues.
Separately, the company announced that it is operating at 100-percent capacity, and recently acquired for $408 million the just-completed Biogen manufacturing facility in Oceanside, Calif.
A week later, down the road in Lexington, Aramark Uniform and Career Apparel Inc. announced it would centralize some operations down the road in Lexington, creating more than 100 new jobs. More than $1.37 million in state incentives will be coming the company’s way. Gary Cook, manager, real estate, for Calif-based Aramark Uniform Services, is an IAMC corporate member.
The Golden Triangle was gilded further the last week of June when Louisville-based Humana Inc. announced on June 30 a 1,113-job, $5.7-million expansion in three Louisville locations and one in Newport, in northern Kentucky. Karen Finan, with Northern Kentucky Tri-ED, the economic development agency for that region, is an IAMC member.
