Okay ...

There has never been a better time to enjoy your work than the upcoming IAMC Spring 2006 Professional Forum being held March 25-29, at the Hotel del Coronado, an island resort right outside of San Diego, California. Once the largest structure outside of New York City — it occupies 31 acres of oceanfront property — and electrically lighted under the supervision of Thomas Edison himself, the Hotel del Coronado has a rich history of glamour, luxury and celebrity.

Hotel del Coronado

Envisioned by founders Elisha Babcock and H.L. Story to be "the talk of the Western World," the Del has certainly lived up to their dream. Since construction was completed in 1888, the Del has played host to presidents, movie stars and European royalty.

Ten U.S. presidents have visited the Hotel del Coronado, starting in 1891 with Benjamin Harrison. It is rumored that England’s King Edward VIII met Coronado divorcee, Wallis Spencer Simpson — the woman he would later give up his crown to marry — at the Hotel Del. Celebrities from Charlie Chapman and Humphrey Bogart to Brad Pitt and Madonna have both worked and played at the resort.

The Del has been the backdrop for movies going back to 1901. In 1958, Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemon filmed Some Like It Hot with the Del in the background.

The Hotel is such a fabulous resort that at least one guest has never left. Resident Ghost Katie Morgan checked into the hotel on Nov. 25, 1982, and never checked out. There have been reports of ghostly happenings ever since.

Since its creation, the Hotel del Coronado has been a veritable mecca of rest and relaxation. During the World War II years, women with black eyes were all the rage at The Del. It was the Hollywood hangout for actresses recovering from facelift surgery.

Currently, the Hotel Del features exclusive spa offerings and fitness programs, including a variety of massage techniques and specialty treatments such as exfoliation, body wraps and day spa packages. The Del also features a golf course, pool with rental cabanas, surfing lessons, and sunset sailing.

Off property, San Diego is a play land for kids of all ages from the San Diego Zoo and its Wild Animal Park to SeaWorld Adventure and LEGOLAND California.

With sunny weather year round, miles of pristine beaches and a bounty of activities for any frame of mind, there has never been a better time to mix business and pleasure than the IAMC Spring 2006 Professional Forum.
