The Silhouette of Success

Between last year and this year, the percentage of IAMC corporate end-user members who are directors jumped from 35 percent to 41 percent, according to new analysis conducted by IAMC Director of Research Joel Parker. Those who are managers did likewise, from 28 percent to 34 percent, suggesting increasing seniority and influence among the organization's active members. Meanwhile, the category of "other titles" beyond those positions or executive positions included 6 percent who are specialists or analysts.

Pennsylvania and Texas switched the top two positions for states of residence among corporate members, with Georgia vaulting from out of the top 10 to No. 4.

The percentage of corporate member companies showing sales growth of 20 percent or more has dropped from 14.5 percent to 8.2 percent, while those showing sales growth below 5 percent have swelled from 18.8 percent to 42.4 percent. Similarly, those with net income growth of 5 percent or less have more than doubled from 20.7 percent to 45.8 percent.

IAMC's large multinational member companies continue to lead the way in employee count, with 44.1 percent employing between 30,000 and 100,000 people. But membership from companies employing fewer than 10,000 has gone from 10.3 percent to 14.4 percent, while membership from those employing between 10,000 and 29,999 has likewise risen from 20 percent to 22.1 percent — perhaps a reflection of the increasingly important role of medium-sized enterprise in the industrial economy.

Finally, 18 companies are represented in IAMC by multiple members, some with job titles now containing the words "economic development." Both trends may indicate the increasingly important role of another phenomenon — teamwork — that IAMC's collegial atmosphere is pledged to cultivate.
