Coca-Cola Announces Bottle Recycling Plant, Aggressive Recycling Strategy

Coca-Cola announced September 6 ambitious plans to build a $60 million plant near Spartanburg, S.C., to recycle 100 percent of its plastic drink bottles according to an article in greenbiz.com. Coke recently redesigned its 20-ounce drink bottles to use less of the recyclable PET plastic of which they are composed. Matthew Fanoe is the IAMC Corporate Active member with Coca-Cola Enterprises, the largest bottler and distributor of Coca-Cola products.



EPA Honors Top 25 Green Power Purchasers; List Includes IAMC Member Companies

IAMC member companies PepsiCo (IAMC member, Russell Burton), Johnson & Johnson (member, Mert Livingstone) and Sprint Nextel (member, Wayne Young) are listed by the U.S. Environment protection Agency (EPA) as being among the top 25 users of "green" power. PepsiCo tops the list with green energy purchases exceeding 1.0 billion kilowatt-hours per year. According to Dawn Hudson, (see adjacent photo) president and CEO of Pepsi-Cola North America as quoted in greenbiz.com, "This represents a collective approach to protecting the environment and becoming more sustainable in the long-term   something our consumers, customers, employees and investors can feel good about."

Frito-Lay’s Jonesboro, Ark., Plant
Qualifies for EPA’s National Green Leadership Program

The National Green Leadership Program honors and encourages companies, such as Frito-Lay, that exceed Environmntal Protection Agency (EPA) pollution control standards at manufacturing and industrial facilities. Greenbiz.com reports that the company’s Jonesboro, Ark., plant plans to increase its waste water treatment capacity so that it can reduce pollution output by 1.6 million pounds, use 31.5 million gallons of water less than before and recycle over "1,000 tons of waste." Kyle Ballard represents Frito-Lay as an IAMC Corporate Active member.


Honeywell Gets Denver Housing Authority Energy Efficiency Contract

IAMC member company Honeywell has been engaged by the Denver Housing Authority (DHA) to increase its usage of renewable energy sources and to upgrade its infrastructure. The contract is worth $11.6 million. An article in greenerbuildings.com says, "The first phase will reduce annual energy use by 25 percent and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 5.6 million pounds per year." Phil Hammel and Tim Fitzpatrick represent Honeywell as IAMC Corporate Active members.


Honeywell Engaged by DOE to Reduce Its Energy Consumption

The U.S. Department of Energy ( DOE) has contracted with Honeywell to assist with the Transformational Energy Management (TEAM) program, which intends to reduce the agency’s facility energy usage by 30 percent and save an estimated $90 million per year according to an article in greenerbuildings.com. The federal government is the largest U.S. energy consumer. Honeywell’s Phil Hammel and Tim Fitzpatrick are IAMC Corporate Active members.


Cardinal Healthcare Receives Incentives Package from Dublin, Ohio

Cardinal Healthcare has concluded an incentive agreement with its headquarters location, Dublin, Ohio, that will result in 675 additional jobs for the area at a cost to the city of $850,000 annually for three years. In addition, Dublin will make local infrastructure improvements to support Cardinal’s local facility. An article in thisweeknews.com reports that "when all of the anticipated 675 jobs are on line — the city will bring in an additional $786,000 a year in income tax." Pfizer Invests Big in Durham, NC, Company

Pharmaceutical giant Pfizer has announced plans to invest up to $1.0 billion in Durham, N.C., based Icagen for research and development of pain relievers. The deal provides Icagen with $38 million of working capital for each of two years. Pfizer will pay the company up to $359 million for each product developed. Sean Nugent (pictured to the left) is the IAMC Corporate Active member from Pfizer.

Boeing and Honeywell Collaborate on Supply Chain

In a deal that could reduce real estate and human resources outlays by Boeing and some airlines, the aircraft manufacturer has contracted with Honeywell to maintain parts inventories for the airlines that purchase and operate Boeing planes. As explained by reliableplant.com, "Boeing and suppliers like Honeywell maintain an airline's inventory of spare parts — providing items as needed. By reducing the airline's own inventory, IMM reduces the airline's cost of doing business." IAMC members for Honeywell include Phil Hammel and Tim Fitzpatrick; Jeff Adelson is the member from Boeing.



Alcoa Announces Photovoltaic
Project for California Plant

An Alcoa press release reports that the company will install an extensive photovoltaic system (see adjacent photo) at its Visalia, Calif., plant that will generate about 80 percent of the 200,000 sq. ft. plant’s power. Alcoa is a member of the United States Climate Action Partnership, which encourages the government to take measures against global warming. James Winter is the IAMC Corporate Active member from Alcoa.



Honda Canada Regional Center

Honda’s Canadian Headquarters
Building to be LEED Certified

Honda has announced that it plans to build a new headquarters campus on 47 acres near Markham, Ontario. A press release carried by CNW Telbec says, "The campus will house three separate but interconnected buildings, including a four-storey LEED(TM) (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) green building for the head office, advancing Honda's continued commitment to the environment."
