Cardinal Health to Open Three New Cyclotron Facilities
One component of the medical diagnosis aid called Positron Emission Tomography (PET) has a two-hour useful life. Cardinal Health plans to manufacture this radiological component in three new facilities very close to the points of intended use. DotMed News reports, "These manufacturing facilities use cyclotrons to produce fluorine-18 (F-18), the radioactive precursor needed to create fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG), the PET imaging agent commonly used to diagnose various diseases. FDG's relatively short half-life of just under two hours makes it challenging to efficiently distribute the product over great distances." The plants will be located in Tampa, FL, Hartford, CT and Louisville, KY.

Deere CEO Optimistic on World Food Production, Sees China as an Opportunity
Fortune magazine recently interviewed agricultural equipment maker Deere & Company's CEO Robert W. Lane about global food production and the effect of rising food stuff prices on his company's sales. Lane said, "A growing population that has money to buy food is impacting all crops - rice, wheat - far beyond corn. There is an impact from corn ethanol, but it's a small impact compared with the demand from global growth." When asked "Is China a market or a competitor for Deere?," he said, "Both. It is a market for our products. We manufacture combines and tractors there, we just bought a tractor company there, and we build transmissions there."

While commercial office rents continue to rise in London, Moscow and New York, the world's biggest financial firms have curtailed lending amid at least $379 billion in mortgage-related losses and write-downs."
