Michael P. Hickey
In Memoriam

Michael P. Hickey (1949-2009) was a successful business man, a beloved family man, and a stalwart supporter of the Industrial Asset Management Council (IAMC). Throughout his career, he demonstrated integrity, leadership, dedication and selflessness. He was a friend and colleague to many, he always had time to lend a hand, and he treated everyone with fairness, compassion and professionalism.

Hickey was actively involved in IAMC from the start, bringing a love of the industry and respect for his colleagues and peers to everything he touched. Over the course of his tenure with the association, he participated on the Membership Committee and co-chaired the Marketing Committee. He was a gold-level member of the Recruiter's Club, bringing in 7 Active (corporate end user) members. He also served as a mentor to new members through IAMC's Ambassador Program.

A recognized and respected expert, Hickey was a regular speaker at IAMC Forums, most recently at the Spring 2009 Professional Forum in Asheville as a panelist for the M3 Workshop titled "Innovative Value Creation in Real Estate." He was also a regular contributor to Site Selection Magazine, the official publication of IAMC.

Hickey started Hickey and Associates, LLC, originally in Columbia, Md, eventually settling in Plymouth , Minn. , specializing in market selection and economic development initiatives. Over the last two decades, the business has secured over $1 billion in public incentives, while providing clients unparalleled expertise on the best locations to grow, expand or consolidate their businesses.

To ensure success was not short-lived, Hickey handled each and every business project and relationship with an ethical and honest approach unmatched by many. As the company developed into a global leader for business growth and expansion, Hickey's strong principles were the core reason for his success. Without question, his legacy will endure through the company he built.

Along with launching Hickey and Associates, LLC, Hickey's extensive business career included leadership positions within General Electric and Pillsbury. Prior to entering the private sector, Hickey proudly served as an elected official on the Columbia (MD) City Council and other community leadership positions, while also holding executive positions in Maryland directing employment and training programs, as well as economic development. Hickey received his Masters degree in Business Administration, as well as his undergraduate degree in Political Science, from the University of Maryland, College Park.

Hickey is survived by his wife of thirty-six years, Doris, sons Jason Michael and David Patrick, and siblings William F. Hickey, Jr., Gemma M. Weiblinger, Barbara C. Hickey, Karen M. Bosna, Audrey M. Leggere-Hickey, Brian A. Hickey, and Sean T. Hickey.
