- What is social media?
- Participatory online media where content is created/uploaded/submitted by the users.
- It transforms the audience from content reader to content publisher.
- Examples of social media sites include: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and MySpace.
- Who uses social media?
- According to Edison Research, 48% of respondents in a nationally representative survey currently have a personal profile on Facebook, LinkedIn or any other social networking site. Per Web Analytics World, of executives who use social media, 92% use LinkedIn and 50% regularly use 3-5 distinct social media sites.

- IAMC hosts the IAMC Group on LinkedIn.com open exclusively to IAMC members. This group helps members stay connected in between Forums through both one-on-one contact and a group discussion feature.

- Should I be concerned about privacy if I choose to use LinkedIn?
- No, you have control over what information others in and out of your network can see. You will also be able to choose how you can be contacted and what type of messages you will accept.
- In the IAMC Group on LinkedIn, you choose whether or not other group members can contact you on an individual basis (no one can send out mass communication). Additionally, other group members cannot see your connections outside of the group unless they are in your own network.

IAMC Photo Galleries & Facebook Frequently Asked Questions
- Q: Do I need a Facebook account to view the photos?
- A: No
- Q: Can I be "tagged" in a photo in the IAMC Galleries on Facebook?
- A: No. While this can be changed should the board choose to do so, the current settings on the IAMCGroup page on Facebook.com prevent tagging in the IAMC albums.
- If the board chose to permit tagging within the IAMC photo galleries, only those members with Facebook accounts could be tagged.
- In such a case, if a person were to be tagged, they would be notified according to their own Facebook account settings and would have the option to remove the tag.
- Q: How does IAMC screen photos shared publically/protect members and attendees photographed?
- A: IAMC staff is very respectful and protective of IAMC members and their photos.
- A photo release is part of the Forum registration process. To date, only one person has elected to refuse permission to take/use photos, though they changed their mind when checking in onsite.
- For the Forum photo galleries, Rya Hazelwood thoroughly edits all photos, deleting any that could be seen as unflattering.
- Joy Pooler then thoroughly screens all photos as well.
- For photos used on IAMC.org directly, additional permission was sought from everyone featured.
- For photos used in promotional materials, staff makes a concerted effort to feature association leaders and/or those who have specifically provided a testimonial and headshot.
