Virginia Governor Tim Kaine to Address IAMC during Fall Professional Forum
ATLANTA, September 28, 2006 From Sept. 30 - Oct. 4, more than 300 corporate real estate executives, service providers and economic developers from across North America will learn why "Virginia is for Business" during the Industrial Asset Management Council (IAMC) Fall 2006 Professional Forum, taking place at the Colonial Williamsburg Lodge & Conference Center. Attending organizations from IAMC's roster of corporate "Active" members include Campbell Soup Company, Dell Inc., Hallmark Cards Inc., Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical R&D, PepsiCo Global Real Estate and Sprint-Nextel Corporation.
"As we consider locations for future IAMC Professional Forums, many factors are evaluated. These range from geography and logistical considerations to looking for an industrial community relevant to the professional interests of our Active members," said Charles McSwain, chair of IAMC and vice president of CSX. "Virginia's unique combination of resources provides a strong foundation for success on all levels."
Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine will address the opening general session of the Forum. "The real estate executives and site selectors who make up IAMC are key decision-makers," Gov. Kaine told Ron Starner, executive director of IAMC, in a recent interview published in Site Selection, IAMC's official publication. "It is exciting to have them here in Williamsburg."
During the Professional Forum, attendees will benefit from professional development sessions designed around today's hot topics with tangible take-home value in mind. Themed "Managing Tomorrow's Portfolio: What It Means to You," the Forum will tackle issues such as globalization trends, eminent domain legislation, lease negotiation, industrial lease clauses, global transaction consistency, best practices in global site selection and leadership in energy and environmental design (LEED).
Keynote speakers include: Ted Fishman, veteran journalist, former commodities trader and author of China, Inc.; Jeff Thredgold, nationally recognized economist, business consultant and author; and Dean Foster, internationally recognized cross-cultural business consultant.
In conjunction with the Forum, IAMC will also host its third consecutive On-Campus Learning Event, this time at the College of William & Mary. Continuing their tradition of giving back to host-community students, seven IAMC Members will spend an afternoon with 60-70 students from the College of William & Mary, Christopher Newport University and Virginia State University. During the event featuring a networking luncheon and panel discussion moderated by Starner students will have the opportunity to learn from industry leaders about the current business climate and its impact on opportunities for upcoming graduates looking to enter the workforce.
"In Virginia, we are all about history," Gov. Kaine told Site Selection. "We have been focused since late April on the 400th anniversary of Jamestown, a community that was founded by a company chartered by King James to seek economic opportunity. The entire Williamsburg area is a great community that has undergone tremendous growth, largely because of the economic power of the College of William & Mary. This is also a beautiful area with many natural amenities, and we know our IAMC guests will have a great time."
