IAMC Regions - Frequently Asked Questions

Map

Q) What is the minimum number of Officers required for each Region?
A) Regions are expected to elect a Chair, Program Chair and Membership Chair. It is often useful to elect two people ("Co-Chairs") for one or more of these positions to share responsibilities. Regions may elect other Officers as they deem fit (e.g., Vice-Chair, Recording Secretary, Education Chair).

Q) Must any of the Officer positions be held by Active Members?
A) The Region Chair should be an Active Member but Active and Associate Members may share as Co-Chairs. All other Officer positions may be held by either Active or Associate Members (or both!).

Q) Does IAMC provide financial assistance to Regions?
A) Regions are financially "self-sustaining," but IAMC will assist with event funds collection.

Q) What services does IAMC staff provide to Regions?
A) Staff provides maintenance of data bases for current and "target" members, posting of Region events on IAMC website, collection of event funds, payment of invoices generated by Region events, emailing/collection of event invitations, minimal regional meeting planning assistance.

Q) How should Regions go about planning programs?
A) Program planning requires both ideas/themes and venues. Posing these questions to Regional membership should help:

  • Does anyone have ready access to subject matter experts in such disciplines as economic forecasting, career development, cutting edge real estate asset management practices, creative economic development strategies and such?
  • Does any member reside in or have a client with a unique facility or project that the membership would find interesting?
  • Is a social gathering favored?

Q) How many meetings should Regions plan to hold each year?
A) This is strictly up to each Region but IAMC suggests two meetings, each spaced between Forums.

Q) How can Regions assist with Active Member recruiting?
A) Region meetings provide an excellent opportunity to introduce IAMC to potential members. The Membership Chair should make use of IAMC’s target list. And Associate Members should be encouraged to invite potential Active clients.

Q) Our Region is spread out geographically making it expensive and time-consuming for Members to meet in one location. What does IAMC suggest?
A) Several Regions face this challenge. When distance makes it impossible for a majority of the membership to drive to and from a meeting venue in one day, three alternatives exist:

  • Sub-regional meetings
  • Planning a formal program at IAMC Forums during the Monday AM networking breakfast time slot reserved for Region business.
  • Explore the possibility of video-conferencing.
