Program Overview
Are Companies Looking to Purchase vs Lease due to the New Lease Accounting Regulations?
Even before the new lease accounting regs came on-line, companies and their real estate service providers were speculating the new rules might cause some companies to shift toward owning a higher percentage of their real estate than in the old regime. But today, a year and more after the new regs took effect, this conversation continues. Join this program to hear lease-versus-own analysis best practice and Corporate member commentary on how their company approaches the issue.
Featured Speakers: Eric Zahniser, Senior Associate, Lee & Associates; Troy  Adams, Vice President of Real Estate, NFI Industries

Success with Surplus Brownfield Properties

After plant closure and any subsequent remediation, sites often stagnate in a pattern of ongoing monitoring and management, which can include lingering liability and risk. The benefits of redeploying sites for productive use are significant for the seller, the new owner, and the surrounding community, but it’s not always easy to get there. Often, these surplus sites pose challenges because the additional remediation and demolition required to reposition the site may exceed the value of the property or the market dynamics may not be strong enough to encourage private investment. Taking certain actions in the process from remediation to redevelopment can increase the likelihood of turning a surplus Brownfield property into a success story.
