Interested in Future IAMC Board Service? Start by Getting Involved
By Rya Hazelwood, Senior Director of Communications & Marketing
Board service at IAMC often begins long before a nomination.
For many members, the path to future leadership is built gradually through active involvement, meaningful contribution and a demonstrated commitment to the IAMC community. Committee participation, committee co-chair roles and the Leadership Development Program all provide valuable opportunities for members to grow their leadership skills, expand their IAMC network and make a lasting impact on the association.
IAMC’s Board of Directors plays an important strategic role in helping guide the future of the organization. Board service requires not only leadership experience, but also a willingness to think broadly, work collaboratively and engage in thoughtful discussion around IAMC’s long-term direction. As the Nominating Committee evaluates potential candidates, it considers a range of factors, including leadership skills and experience, strategic thinking, creative problem-solving, collaborative engagement and demonstrated commitment to IAMC.
One of the best ways to build that foundation is through committee service.
IAMC committees and task forces offer members the chance to contribute fresh perspectives, support key association priorities and work alongside fellow members from across the industrial real estate community. From Forum programming and keynote speaker selection to professional education, membership development, member engagement and NextGen leadership, committee involvement gives members a direct way to help shape IAMC’s programs, resources and member experience.
The Leadership Development Program is another important pathway for members who want to grow as leaders within IAMC and within their own organizations. The program is designed to provide high-quality training that enhances members’ leadership skills for the benefit of both the individual and the company they represent. Participants receive training across key leadership areas, opportunities for practical application and inclusion in IAMC’s resource pool for future leadership opportunities.
Members who complete the program’s training and service requirements are eligible to receive the IAMC Fellow designation.
Of course, deeper engagement offers value far beyond future Board consideration.
By participating in committees, leadership development and other volunteer opportunities, members expand their professional networks, increase their visibility across the industry and strengthen their connection to the IAMC community. Just as importantly, they help ensure IAMC continues to deliver the high-quality professional development, knowledge sharing and relationship-building experiences that make the association so valuable.
Future leadership is not built overnight. It is built through showing up, contributing thoughtfully, saying yes to opportunities and helping move the organization forward.
Whether you are interested in future Board service or simply looking for a more meaningful way to engage with IAMC, now is a great time to get involved.
