Union Pacific Reports Service Upgrades

SUPPLY CHAIN DIVE—Union Pacific is reporting an increase in service by 8% since mid-April. Freight railroads have shared service issues due to labor shortages in the midst of high demand. Union Pacific aggressively tackled the issue by adding 3,000 of its own cars and increasing train length. “By eliminating excess rail car inventory, along with other resource initiatives, we gain the ability to improve service for all our customers,” says Kenny Rocker, executive vice president of marketing and sales.

How Industrial Will Weather Inflation

CUSHMAN & WAKEFIELD—There are four possible scenarios for the economic picture, according to Cushman & Wakefield: A soft landing, upside growth, a mild recession and stagflation. Not surprisingly, Doors Number One and Two will produce the greatest value proposition, with a projected industrial value increase by 2025 of 10% and 9.9% respectively. By comparison, the multifamily sector stands to gain 3.9% and 4.6% while retail will post 4.4% in both categories in the same timeframe.

Prologis, Kraft Heinz, Ryder Focus on Delivery

SUPPLY CHAIN DIVE—Kraft Heinz, purveyors of everything from ketchup to Grey Poupon, has committed to getting their foodstuffs to consumers more quickly with a new 650,000-square-foot facility in Lathrop, CA. Prologis and Ryder pitched in on the project, which is designed to improve fill rates to customers and do so with a smaller carbon footprint. The LEED-certified facility will serve as a model for Kraft Heinz distribution centers going forward.

315,000 New Jobs Not Enough to Relieve Labor Shortage

COMMERCIAL OBSERVOR—The August jobs report from the Department of Labor brought us a mixed message. On one hand, employers added 315,000 positions but not nearly enough to relieve the squeeze of the ongoing labor shortage. Meanwhile, the number of unemployed workers continues to rise—in August by 344,000—to 6 million. https://commercialobserver.com/2022/09/national-jobs-growth-remains-steady-as-unemployment-ticks-up/?utm_campaign=daily-roundup&utm_content=2022-06-09-28955402&utm_source=Sailthru&utm_medium=email&utm_term=CO%20Daily%20Newsletter
