SUPPLY CHAIN DIVE—It’s called the MK30, and it promises increased range and “expanded temperature tolerance” among its features. The MK30 is a drone Amazon plans to put into service in 2024, but its initial runs will take place in the next few weeks in Lockeford, CA and College Station, TX. The new bird is destined to be the latest advancement in the firm’s Prime Air service. In addition to range and temperature improvements, the drone will provide “safety-critical features,” says Amazon, “and the capability to fly in light rain will enable customers to choose drone delivery more often.” A new propeller design is also expected to reduce noise by 25%.

CUSHMAN & WAKEFIELD—The available talent for industrial jobs is still in short supply. Cushman & Wakefield reports that openings in the manufacturing sector alone peaked at almost 102,000 on April 1, dipping to 80,600 by September 1. By comparison, there were 49,700 hires on April 1, and 38,300 hires by September 1. Not surprisingly, wage growth has also accelerated, “to well above 6%,” says the service provider. “This escalation in wage growth reflects the mismatch between strong labor demand at historic levels . . . and the challenges to recruit and fill positions.”

COMMERCIAL OBSERVER—A 6.5-million-square-foot industrial park is coming out of the ground in Savannah, GA. SJP Properties, Chesterfield and Atalaya Capital Management have started on the first asset of the proposed 12-building park, a $550-million project to be dubbed Georgia International Commerce Center. Savannah has been rated by Savills as 2021’s fastest growing port, the result of growing congestion at other destinations. Set for a July 2023 completion, the first asset will pace out to 1 million square feet. Subsequent buildings will range from 250,000 to 1.3 million feet.
