Shell Snags EV Charger in $169M Deal

PR NEWSWIRE—Shell USA has completed its purchase of Volta, one of the country’s largest public producers of EV charging networks. The all-cash deal was valued at $169 million and delivers more than 3,000 charging points to the energy company. In addition, there’s a pipeline of more than 3,400 more points. "We want to make charging as convenient as possible for our customers," said István Kapitány, EVP of Shell Mobility, in a statement. "Beyond providing a charging service, Volta specializes in generating advertising revenues from screens embedded into the charge point, adding a source of non-fuel revenue from sites both in the U.S. and globally."

Needed Upgrades Will Bring Drone Services to New Heights

SUPPLY CHAIN DIVE—Major upgrades in the technology and acceptance of drones are called for, says a Supply Chain report. “Otherwise, it will take much longer for drones to deliver on the hype and become as ubiquitous in neighborhoods as delivery vans are.” Delivery density, increased range, response speed and pilot control over multiple drones are just some of the ways droning companies can lower operating costs and live up to the above-mentioned hype.

Gigaplants and the New Age of Industrial

GLOBEST.COM—Between $106 billion and $177 billion is GlobalData’s prediction for the growth of so-called gigafactories through 2030. Further, while there were only 66 EV plants in 2020, that number will grow to 155 by 2030. If the industrial market maintains the growth it’s experienced over the past three years, and folding in the rise of EV plants, YardiMatrix predicts that as much as 370 million feet of new industrial space will be needed annually. This will tally to 1.8 billion feet by 2026.
