TRANSPORT DIVE—Jochen Goetz, Daimler Truck AG’s 52-year-old CFO, died recently in what was initially termed an undisclosed accident. The firm said in a press statement that the “tragic incident” was a “tremendous loss” for the firm. In a subsequent social media post, supervisory board chair Joe Kaeser revealed that the cause of death was in fact complications from the sting of a wasp. Goetz is credited as “decisively responsible” for the 2021 spin-off of Daimler from parent Mecedes-Benz Group and in shaping Daimler Truck. In the post, Kaeser stated, “I started thinking about how such a small insect could kill a strong man, a loving father, and a great manager. Jochen Goetz got killed by such an insect.” He is survived by his wife and two children.

YAHOO! FINANCE—A 311,363-square-foot FedEx distribution center in Southern California is now part of the Prologis portfolio. The $96.6-million ($310.25-per-foot) deal is part of Prologis’ previously reported agreement to acquire 14 million square feet of industrial assets under control by various Blackstone funds. The seller was Gramercy Property Trust, which Blackstone acquired in 2018.

COMMERCIAL PROPERTY EXECUTIVE—Iberia Parish, LA, is going to get a major infusion of capital and jobs as First Solar executes plans to build a solar-module manufacturing plant there. The $1.1-billion project is expected to reach completion in the first half of 2026, providing 700 direct manufacturing positions producing photovoltaic solar panels. First Solar is receiving incentives from the parish and the Iberia Economic Development Authority for site improvements such as water and wastewater infrastructure development.

SUPPLY CHAIN DIVE—There are 20 new Southern cities in Pitney Bowes’ regional delivery services promising one-to-three-day delivery. The strategy is an expansion of the regional-delivery model launched last year in the Northeast and the Northern and Southern California markets. The enhanced delivery service is based on ZIP Codes and, by the first quarter of this year, allowed the firm to grow its global e-commerce volume by 22%. The new Southeast destinations are cities in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North and South Carolina and Tennessee. In the Southwest, it’s Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.

COMMERCIAL PROPERTY EXECUTIVE—Hillwood is building two industrial buildings on spec at AllianceTexas, its 27,000-acre master-planned project in Fort Worth. The buildings—both measuring 224,616 square feet, will include 32-foot clear heights, 260-foot building depths and 60-foot loading bays. Spec tenants improvements (TI) are slated for completion by the first quarter of 2024.
