IAMC PILLAR™ Intensive:
Industrial in Transition – Leading through Uncertainty
Industrial real estate is evolving at a pace unmatched in recent history. Technological innovation, shifting supply chains, changing capital markets, and changing occupier demands are reshaping how organizations make location, investment, and operational decisions. At the same time, competition for talent is intensifying, requiring leaders to think beyond buildings and infrastructure to consider how workforce attraction, development, and retention influence long-term success. In an environment defined by uncertainty, how can industrial real estate leaders make better decisions, anticipate what is next, and create lasting value?

Drawing on both academic research and real-world experience, Roger Bailey, Associate Dean of The Ohio State University's Max M. Fisher College of Business, and Trey Addison, Interim Executive Director of The Ohio State University's Center for Real Estate, will engage in a dynamic fireside chat exploring how leaders can navigate complexity, assess risk, and make confident decisions amid rapid change. The discussion will challenge participants to look beyond the immediate deal, project, or market cycle and embrace a future-focused mindset. Rather than simply reacting to the conditions in front of them, attendees will explore how to identify emerging trends, forecast future business and workforce needs, and position their organizations to remain competitive in an increasingly uncertain environment.

The session will also feature an interactive applied-learning exercise in which participants work in small groups to analyze a real-world industrial real estate scenario, develop a recommended course of action, and present their reasoning for discussion and feedback from Bailey and Addison. By balancing present realities with future opportunities, participants will gain a practical framework for evaluating decisions under uncertainty and actionable tools they can immediately apply. Whether building an internal business case, shaping an economic development strategy, recruiting and retaining talent, or advising clients through critical transactions, attendees will leave better equipped to anticipate change, lead through disruption, and create long-term value.
