From Milestone to Tradition: The Story Behind IAMC's Challenge Coins
IAMC’s biannual North American Forums are more than just conferences; they are opportunities to connect, learn, and celebrate the organization’s thriving community. Since Spring 2021, IAMC has marked each of these gatherings with a unique and cherished tradition: the Challenge Coin.
The Origin of IAMC’s Challenge Coins
The Challenge Coin tradition was created after 2020, when IAMC had to cancel in-person events for the first time ever in its history. The absence of face-to-face connections underscored the value of IAMC’s gatherings, making the return to live events even more significant.
That return came in Spring 2021, when IAMC hosted its first post-COVID in-person Forum in Fort Worth, Texas. To commemorate the momentous occasion, IAMC introduced its inaugural Challenge Coin—a tangible token celebrating resilience, community and the long-awaited reunion of its members.
A Collectible Tradition
Since that milestone event, IAMC has continued the Challenge Coin tradition at every Spring and Fall Forum in North America. These coins are not merely souvenirs; they are exclusive mementos given only to those in attendance, symbolizing their participation and connection to the IAMC network.
Each coin is thoughtfully designed to reflect both IAMC’s core mission and the unique character of the Forum’s host city. Whether featuring iconic landmarks, local culture, or themes that tie into the event’s focus, these coins serve as lasting reminders of the knowledge shared, relationships strengthened, and experiences gained at each Forum. They also embody a rich history, often associated with military and organizational camaraderie, offering members a sense of pride and connection that extends beyond the Forum itself.
As IAMC looks ahead to future Forums, the Challenge Coin tradition remains a meaningful way to commemorate each IAMC Forum. Stay tuned for the next Challenge Coin, and be sure to follow IAMC’s social media for a reveal of the next design!
