Did you ever think of the behind-the-scenes insights IAMC members get by participating in the executive committee? It’s a rare view and one that, certainly in the case of last year’s chair, Karen Shchuka, resulted in a greater understanding of all that comes from being a member.

Certainly the development of contacts and the camaraderie of meetings is a foregone conclusion in any association membership. But there is so much more to see, so much more to learn, when you participate at a higher and deeper level, as Shchuka, who is vice president of Real Estate for Penske Transportation Solutions, found out. Here are her Big 5 lessons learned, so far, during her tenure on the Board of Directors:  

Corporate relocations–or for that matter, expansions into new territories–are not a challenge to be faced alone. They are, indeed, projects that demand corporate real estate executives to call all hands to the deck. That said, here are the Top Five must bases to touch prior to launching a strategy of this magnitude, as seen by Patty Horvatich, senior vice president of Business Investment for the Pittsburgh Regional Alliance, the economic development affiliate of the Allegheny Conference on Community Development.

IAMC Spring Forum attendees this year know Patricia Loveall, SIOR. The Seattle-based executive vice president of CBRE and an IAMC Fellow was this year’s recipient of the Michael C. Hickey Award as Service Provider of the Year. She is also this year’s global president of SIOR.
